Art collection

The multi-facetted art collection originated with the brothers Hans and Franz Joseph van der Grinten who spent years building up a private collection. It comprises visual and applied arts movements since the 19th century. Joseph Beuys’s varied oeuvre forms the core.

Numerous artists, many of them from Joseph Beuys’s own circle, are also represented with large groups of works. In terms of a genre focus, key areas include the collection of prints and drawings as well as the holdings of paintings, sculptures and art objects. Changing exhibitions show the diversity of the collection and include items from the Joseph Beuys Archive.
