art&cycle: pictures in the landscape

Cycling through the "Lower Rhinelands" between the Rhine and Waal, a landscape that has offered inspiration for artists since the 17th century with its vast sky and deep horizon.

Discover the motifs of the German-Dutch border region, which have already inspired famous artists such as Jan van Goyen, Salomon van Ruysdael, Joseph Beuys and Gerhard Richter, by bicycle, on foot or by car.

The route spans 140 km in total. In addition, there are three day tours signposted around Kleve, Arnhem and Nijmegen. The route takes you along 24 “Points of View” to places that were captured in a painting. Sometimes you get a panoramic view of the river landscape of the Rhine and Waal, sometimes it is a city view, for example, of Nijmegen, Arnhem or Kleve and there are also historic buildings that still mark the towns.
